"Invasive Species on Oahu"

Please join us on Wednesday, May 25 for a presentation by Rachel Neville and Erin Bishop of the Oahu Invasive Species Committee, who will speak, oddly enough, on Invasive Species on Oahu and the Hawaiian Islands. The OSCI is charged with protecting Oahu’s native ecosystems, agriculture production and the public’s quality of life; eradicating incipient invasive species and containing high impact invaders; and educating and involving the public to help stop the spread of invasive species.
Rachel and Erin discuss current invasive species by type – plants, terrestrial animals, marine animals, microbes/fungi, etc., and steps being taken to limit or eliminate their spread. Also included will be discussion of some lesser known and emerging invasive species that may not get the attention afforded to the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle or Miconia.
OSCI will provide examples of the work they are doing and major projects currently underway, plus opportunities for our members to get involved with their organization.
